Original Stanley-made vintage screws, bolts and other parts – from 1858 to about 1970. Steam Stationary Engines, Traction Engines, Steam Boats Antique steam engines, their boilers, pumps, gauges, whistles and other related things that make them run. I just inherited this small box bed mill engine – and it WAS found in a barn! The flywheel is approx. 14 inches across, and the bore/stoke are about 3 x 3 3/4 in. I couldn’t get a thread gauge match to a cylinder head bolt, but just by measuring it looks to be 22 TPI. 1) Run a bolt down, cut flush and drill and tap the original bolt hole? I can think of a couple of potential problems with this, namely unless the thread cut matches exactly, it seems like one would have a junk hole (in terms of not being able to reach torque) and I don’t know if 7/16-16 helicoils exist although 7/16-20 do. The panhead hole was usually threaded with the later pitch (20 tpi) so it will leave a viable threaded hole. Set the depth of the bolt to be cut off to the best alignment to the original threads and install the bolt with sleeve retainer. All this is best done with the head rigidly fixed to the mill bed. As the panhead location just barely extends into the original hole, you should end up with threaded hole that will hold up well.
