The theme for the 50th Great Knaresborough Bed Race has been announced – ‘Popular Culture from the Past 50 Years’. The Race will be run on 13 June 2015, the second Saturday as has been the tradition for the past half-century. The bed race takes part each year in Knaresborough – North Yorkshire, which attracts thousands of spectators each year. Each team must have 5 people to a team who actually race (4 runners, 1 rider and 1 alternate, just in case). Participants are encouraged to dress along with the bed theme decoration to win prizes.
All bed racers MUST sign the Waiver of Liability and acknowledgement of the Bed Race Rules and Regulations before participating in the race. On the morning of the big day, all racing teams dress themselves and theme their beds to participate in the novelty fancy dress parade (approx 1.5km). The first trophies are up for grabs during the procession, led out by a marching band. A bed race fundraiser is another fun fundraising event idea that can raise a lot of money for your cause.
Prior to the race, competition teams parade their beds in hopes of winning the Best Decorated Bed award. Additional awards are also distributed for Theme, Costumes and the Best Engineered Bed.
