Pandora’s box is one of the most descriptive myths of human behavior in Greek Mythology. According to Hesiod Hope indeed stayed inside because that was Zeus’ will; he wanted to let people suffer in order to understand that they should not disobey their gods. The myth itself though appears in many different versions; the most distinctive difference is that in some myths Hope does come out. I just read a version that said FORBODING was what was left in the box, and if it had gotten out, there would be no hope left in the world. I’ve seen many modern books wrongly claiming that hope did escape the box and, despite all evil that was spread throughout the land, people still hoped that better days would soon come. Today the phrase to open Pandora’s box means to perform an action that may seem small or innocent, but that turns out to have severely detrimental and far-reaching consequences. So he did, using water and earth.
And another thing, why does the myth say hope remained in the jar? It’s clearly out.
