I’m in the middle of giving my home office a makeover, and one of my biggest priorities for the room has been to add some built-in storage. It’s important to note that our home office sits at the front of our house and is basically the first room you see after entering the foyer. For a book lover, there’s nothing more beautiful, and more satisfying, than a huge wall of built-in bookcases. The installation above may look like a custom job, but it’s actually just a really clever IKEA hack, with some Billys on top, IKEA cabinets on the bottom, and a lot of wood trim from the hardware store. I have always wanted built-in bookshelves. I had intended to do the typical Billy Bookcase hack, but decided I wanted some closed storage and more detail.

We decided to replace that shelving unit with a full wall of built-in shelves with lower cabinets, using IKEA Besta shelves, with a few creative touches thrown in. A friend mentioned an IKEA Hack. I looked it up on-line and became inspired. Our wall was 158 with a window slightly off-center, so a row of bookshelves would not work.
