Conversely, White Oak tends to be slightly more olive-colored, but is by no means a reliable method of determining the type of oak. A project of mine is to be built of quartersawn white oak. Red Oak Quarter Sawn Plywood
Quartersawn and riftsawn white oak are some of my favorite woods. We’ve been using a lot of rustic white oak wide-plank flooring, with no noticable case hardening that I’m aware of.
