Wooden Sleepers, a new brick and mortar vintage shop that evolved out of the successful online store, recently opened in Red Hook, Brooklyn. A couple of weeks ago, I had the pleasure of visiting Wooden Sleepers, a vintage menswear store in Red Hook and chatting with its owner, Brian Davis.
There’s more to shopping in Red Hook than the only Ikea in the five boroughs. Check out the quirky, unique offerings at home-decor stores, clothing at women’s boutiques, jewelry from vintage shops and natural flourishes from gardening stores. See 4 photos and 1 tip from 30 visitors to WOODEN SLEEPERS. Killer vintage store and really friendly staff. Brian Davis has great style, and he started Wooden Sleepers as a booth at various flea markets and an online shop before settling down in this brick-and-mortar location in Red Hook. Vintage Menswear Shop Opens In Red Hook With Military And Classic Styles
One of the better ones is the new Wooden Sleepers in Red Hook, Brooklyn, where on a recent visit I poked through racks of military gear and walked out with a blanket-thick purple and green flannel and an old megaphone-shaped cheerleading pin that reads WE’RE 1. RED HOOK, B’KLYN SAT 11-7, SUN 12-6, MON-FRI BY APPT. However, Red Hook is an NYC treasure, I recommend making a day of it and touring the Red Hook Winery, getting a slice of key lime pie from Steve’s, and having dinner at The Good Fork (order the Korean Style Steak and Eggs). Wooden Sleepers is a gem, with an incredible selection of vintage preppy clothing (as long as you’re willing to pay close to retail-level prices, and inflated prices for true vintage items like US army khakis and made-in-USA barn jackets). To call Wooden Sleepers in Red Hook, Brooklyn, a vintage shop would be technically correct but also misleading. Most vintage shops are crammed to the rafters with anything the owners can get their hands on a mish-mash of clothes of questionable style and condition.
